Outline
Is the shape of the whole package right?
The failure it prevents Rewriting finished content to fix its order
Outline shapes every deliverable as headings only: the learner guide, the assessment tool, the session plan, the trainer notes. Reviewers judge the shape of the whole package before anyone writes a paragraph.
This is not the course or unit outline given to learners. The skeletons are the designers' blueprint.
What happens
- Draft the skeleton of each deliverable: sections, sequence, where each task and activity sits.
- Carry the mapping matrix into the skeletons, so each heading already knows which descriptors it serves.
- Review the package as a whole for order, load and duplication.
- Purpose
- Shape all deliverables as headings only.
- What it produces
- Skeletons of every deliverable
- Exit gate
- Structure approved
At the gate, ask
- Does the sequence build skills in an order a learner can follow?
- Is any section serving no descriptor, or any descriptor without a section?
- Would changing the order later mean rewriting finished content?
The purpose, artefact, exit gate and failure come from the paper's stage table. The question, what happens and the gate questions are this site's guidance.
