Stage 6 of 10 · Design and release
Develop
What does a learner need to succeed at those assessments?
The failure it prevents Inaccurate or unreadable materials
Develop produces the learning materials, each built to the assessment it prepares for: text, activities, media, practicals and resources. It is the most labour-intensive stage but the least risky, because structure and evidence are already settled.
What happens
- Fill the approved skeletons with the materials, activities, media, practicals and resources.
- Keep each content block traced to the task and descriptors it prepares the learner for.
- Suit the cohort: reading level, examples and access needs from the Discover profiles.
- Purpose
- Develop learning content to the assessments.
- What it produces
- Learning materials and activities
- Exit gate
- Accuracy and quality review
At the gate, ask
- Is it accurate and current? Has a subject-matter expert checked it?
- Is there content that prepares for nothing assessed, or a task nothing prepares for?
- Can the named cohort read and use it, including learners using assistive technology?
The purpose, artefact, exit gate and failure come from the paper's stage table. The question, what happens and the gate questions are this site's guidance.
